Our Story

What Inspired Us?

Inspired by MBTI sites and FOCUS2, the user can chat with a bot to take an astronaut-type test, get personalized career suggestions, and explore stories of astronauts with similar types.

What Is Our Project's Purpose?

To educate people on facts about astronauts and provide suggestions for an astronaut-related career path.

How Did We Build This?

We stitched a custom HTML/CSS/JS front end—with Canvas charts and procedural starfields—to Tableau and Python pipelines that prepped the astronaut data, then exposed everything through a lightweight Express service.

What Were Some Challenges?

  • Joining and cleaning data
  • Making the lunar look accessible
  • Lining up the layered Earth-and-title effects
  • Wiring mission stories, chat UX, and data flows together without frameworks

All of this stretched both design polish and engineering time.

What Are Some Accomplishments We’re Proud Of?

  • An interactive minimap that swaps mission stories in real time
  • A ChatGPT-like copilot that feels at home in the theme
  • A polished hero section with layered depth
  • Everything runs without heavy frameworks

What Did We Learn?

We learned to merge design and data: smoothing Canvas visuals, cleaning astronaut datasets, and wiring chat UX with Tableau pipelines—balancing creative polish with engineering constraints.

What's Next?

We’ll add datasets on astronaut personalities and physical traits, refine career guidance with more paths, create richer astronaut stories, build a mobile interface, and extend this type-test approach to broader STEM fields.
