Inspiration
We wanted a simple yet powerful way to stay connected with the cosmos. Most astrology apps focus on horoscopes, but we were inspired to create a tool that grounds astrology in real-time celestial events, tailored to your location. Blending sky science with daily life sparked AstroBuddy.
What it does
AstroBuddy informs users about astrological events—like full moons, meteor showers, eclipses—happening or upcoming in their location. It also displays accurate local weather, sunrise/sunset times, and celestial highlights, making it a go-to app for sky-watchers and spiritual seekers alike.
How we built it We used: Frontend: Flutter for cross-platform mobile development Backend: Firebase for authentication and user data APIs: Integrated astronomy and weather APIs to fetch real-time data Location services: For geo-specific results
UI/UX: Designed a clean, intuitive interface with a cosmic vibe
Challenges we ran into Syncing real-time location with multiple APIs Handling time zone discrepancies in sunrise/sunset and celestial data Designing an engaging UI that balanced aesthetics and clarity
Ensuring consistent performance across different devices
Accomplishments that we're proud of Successfully integrated multiple APIs into a seamless experience Built a visually stunning and user-friendly interface Achieved real-time, location-based astrological alerts
Kept the app lightweight and responsive
What we learned How to handle geolocation-based API calls efficiently Deeper understanding of astronomical event calculations and time zones Importance of UI simplicity when displaying complex data
The challenge and reward of merging science with spirituality in tech
What's next for AstroBuddy Personalized notifications for major celestial events Dark mode with real-time star map overlays User profiles with saved preferences Integration of moon phases into calendars Collaboration with astrologers for real-time interpretations
