inspiration
Space and fitness are two frontiers humans are passionate about. Astronauts must maintain strength in microgravity, while people on Earth want smarter ways to track health gains. Inspired by NASA’s training methods, we built Astro Gain — a futuristic AI companion that blends space science with fitness technology.
What it does
Tracks body movements, reps, and posture in real-time using sensors and computer vision.
Provides AI-powered feedback to improve performance and avoid injury.
Gamifies workouts with a space mission theme — every exercise brings you closer to “launch readiness.”
Learns user behavior over time, creating personalized training plans.
Visualizes progress like a rocket trajectory, showing how far you’ve come.
How we built it
Hardware: Motion sensors (IMU), ESP32/Arduino modules for data collection.
Software: Python for data processing, TensorFlow Lite for posture recognition.
AI: OpenAI GPT models for guidance + motivation, custom algorithms for rep counting and progress tracking.
Design: Space-themed mobile interface with 3D rocket animations to visualize fitness growth.
Integration: Firebase for user authentication, progress history, and cloud sync.
Challenges we ran into
Achieving accurate motion recognition in different environments.
Designing the feedback loop so it feels motivational, not robotic.
Making the interface engaging yet simple for daily use.
Balancing real-time AI processing with limited hardware.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a working prototype that tracks, motivates, and visualizes fitness growth.
Created a space-inspired design that makes workouts more exciting.
Successfully combined fitness science + AI + gamification.
What we learned
How to apply astronaut training concepts to everyday fitness.
Real-time data processing with AI in constrained hardware.
The importance of blending motivation, science, and fun in fitness apps.
What's next for Astro Gain
Add voice + AR/VR support for immersive training sessions.
Expand into mental fitness tracking (focus, stress, recovery).
Collaborate with fitness brands and gyms for real-world adoption.
Long-term vision: design a system astronauts can actually use in space missions.
