🌍 Inspiration

Extreme weather events are becoming deadlier every year. We wanted to build something that could actually save lives — a system that predicts disaster before it strikes and gets help to people faster.

🤖 What We Built

AstraShield AI is a real-time disaster prediction and emergency response platform with 6 core features:

• 4-Hazard AI Engine — predicts Flood, Storm, Heatwave & Cyclone risk with 97%+ accuracy
• Live Weather Intelligence — OpenWeatherMap integration updated via GPS
• One-Tap SOS Dispatch — sends name, phone, disaster type & live location
• Live Disaster Map — SOS requests color-coded by rescue status
• Smart Advisory Engine — safety tips auto-generated by Gemini 2.5 Flash
• Rescue Coordination HQ — admin dashboard to track & resolve SOS alerts

🛠️ How We Built It

• Frontend: React + Vite + Tailwind CSS
• Backend: Node.js + Express + MongoDB
• AI Engine: Python + Flask + Google Gemini 2.5 Flash
• APIs: OpenWeatherMap, Google Gemini AI

🚧 Challenges

• Training the AI model to accurately classify 4 different disaster types from live weather inputs
• Connecting the Python AI engine with the Node.js backend seamlessly
• Building a real-time map that updates SOS pins live

📚 What We Learned

• How to integrate multiple APIs into one cohesive platform
• Using Gemini 2.5 Flash for real-time AI advisory generation
• Building full-stack disaster response systems under time pressure
