Inspiration
I saw how tough it was for students to break down larger goals into daily consistent action, and I wanted to build a web app to help students take their ambition and create actionable steps. I build gamification and analytical support to help users become motivated participants.
What it does
With AstraMind's simple, clean user interface, you can transform your big-picture aspirations into daily tasks that fit within your structure. You'll learn how well you're focusing (using a Pomodoro-style timer), receive a score based on your disciplines (i.e. how many times you've completed tasks within the same discipline), track your progress with streaks and badges, and receive visual representations of your accomplishments through interactive analytics and 365-day forecasts.
How we built it
I created AstraMind using only HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Goals, tasks, and progress will be saved into browser localStorage. I built a rule based task breakdown algorithm, a Pomodoro style focus tracking system, gamified elements through streaks and achievements, and incorporated Chart.js to visualize one's progress in an integrated responsive futuristic dashboard.
Challenges we ran into
The primary challenge was to build all of the back-end capabilities as part of the front-end; the second greatest challenge was to create an entirely adaptive breakdown of tasks, without using AI; and lastly, to deliver each completed task/feature after the 3-day hackathon while ensuring all UI components work properly and are responsive.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Consists of a fully functional goal execution apparatus that breaks larger goals into daily tasks, tracks focus through an application based on technical discipline, provides motivation with streaks and accomplishments, and provides graphic democracy projection of progress for one year's work - displayed through a well organized / functional responsive and aesthetically pleasing interface.
What we learned
The design and construction of an intricate, frontend-based web application, dynamic data management via localStorage, gamification & task idiation, real-time data visualisation using Chart.js, and designing a futuristic UI that is responsive/user-friendly all developed over a fast paced period of time during the hackathon.
What's next for AstraMind
I am also planning on adding an AI assistant that will provide individual support and guidance, using cloud storage to sync your device across multiple devices, enabling team collaboration and providing analytics with predictive insights to create a complete solution for use by both students and professionals.
