Inspiration

I have asthma and recently, I got pneumonia. It was hard to know what medicines to take and know how well I was improving. I created this project because it is important that people are able to access medical tools and information.

What it does

This project gives the user information about asthma and how to deal with it. The program also evaluates where a user is at, medically. Based on breath length, there is an algorithm for figuring out whether it is safe to do all activities or not.

How I built it

I built it in AppLab in Code.org. I used this platform because I am most comfortable with its libraries. I used onEvents and if statements to create my code.

Challenges I ran into

I tried to do a questionnaire for the user to fill out, but I did not abstract my code enough and I was lost in the variables. I decided to provide the user with all the information instead.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am really proud of the design of the project. I also am happy with the practicality of this project as well. 1 in 13 Americans have asthma and understanding your own disease is important.

What I learned

I learned how to use DevPost. This is my first-ever Hackathon. I completed this one on my own, but I look forward to collaborating with others in the future.

What's next for AsthmaCheck

I chose this project to educate people and to be a helpful tool. I want to continue to develop and refine this project. Having a larger focus in the varying responses to questionnaires rather than semantic variables will do me and this project well in the future.
