We were hoping to revamp a previous project. For the Fall 2014 Hackathon, we made Asteroid Blaster, a side scroller where you moved a spaceship to avoid hidden asteroids, which could be revealed with a ping ability. The ability to ping is consumed in a few pings, and the recharge rate is proportional to your speed.

What it does

Our current version of Asteroid Blaster doesn't have much besides a moving block in place of an actual ship.

How I built it

We used Unreal engine.

Challenges I ran into

Turns out we bit off more than we could chew, since both of us knew zero Unreal Engine before tonight, and therefore wasn't possible to redo very much of the game. Documentation for Unreal isn't super extensive, which made it difficult to find the pieces needed to proceed.

What I learned

I learned a lot of Unreal Engine development, which I'm glad of since I'd like to be able to make more games in the future.

What's next for Asteroid Blaster 2.0

I'm planning to finish after school gets out so that friends and family can have access to it.
