Inspiration

Many people around the world do not know what health insurance is and how it can benefit them. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, people in India did not have access to health insurance which led to many deaths. It also caused many families to have debt due to expensive medical bills. Our hope is to educate people about health insurance and provide greater accessibility towards those resources so everyone can lead happier and healthier lives.

What it does

A web application allows users to interact and learn about health insurance as well as various health topics. The personalized account feature lets users view and edit their health data. Users are also able to search for hospitals nearby. These resources allow users to get the information they need all in one convenient place.

How we built it

We implemented a MERN stack for our web application. The front-end integrated React, Node. js, and Express to create a functional UI. The back-end uses MongoDB for database management and Google API Keys for the hospital mapping feature of our website. Javascript and HTML/CSS were also used to stylize the UI.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was connecting the backend through a server and querying the data to be used within the application. There was also going to be a 24-hour AI Chatbot that could answer questions but due to time constraints it was not fully completed. There were challenges getting API Keys from Google which is why the backend does not have all structural features.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Even though there were obstacles, everyone in the team learned something new. The team’s spirit and the willingness to persevere helped everyone contribute towards the project. We are proud of the Figma prototype showcasing our idea. We are also happy to have built a web application from a basic understanding of web development. Also, being able to collaborate through Git was a huge achievement for the entire team.

What we learned

Everyone learned how to create a full stack website using a MERN stack. This allowed us all to learn the key differences between frontend and backend development. Some of the team members learned the basics of large language models and how they could be used to train an AI Chatbot. The beginners on the team also learned how to code in Javascript to create a web application.

What's next for Assured Health

The main goal is to create a more elegant user interface and have the backend fully functional. We hope to build a website that is useful and accessible to all as we continue on our mission to educate people about health insurance.
