ASSIST

Inspiration

Have you ever wanted to make an appointment and you couldn't because they were closed? That's exactly what inspired me to make Assist. Assist can can schedule and return the appointment information on your behalf. It makes your life easier, with not only scheduling, but keeping your days organized. I've always found it hard to keep up with the news, but Assist will send you a recap as soon as you wake up. Everything I've been lazy to do has inspired me to make this project.

What it does

Assist is an AI assistant that lives on your phone, it can call on your behalf, perform recurring tasks like daily news reports, last nights stock recap, weather conditions, and much much more.

How we built it

I used Expo, Gemini 2.0 Flash for the AI and Search Grounding, Telnyx for the Phone Number and Calling API, Azure for the conversation voice, Whisper for transcription, and Openweather for weather data

Challenges we ran into

My biggest challenge was compiling the app, Xcode wouldn't let me build it to the iOS simulator which put me back a couple hours.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Even getting to the end of the project solo has been a massive accomplishment. I got set back so many hours on so many errors, the fact I have something to even submit is an accomplishment I'm proud of.

What we learned

By far the biggest thing I learned was how to use Telnyx and it's API to make voice calls, both inbound and outbound. It took the bulk of the time to create and was my biggest learning point.

What's next for ASSIST

I want to make the conversational AI smarter, it does it's job but lacks most human characteristics. I am hoping to make it sound more human like and make the responses more natural.
