Inspiration

Blue Emergency Boxes are available at most parts of the campuses, but your phone is always with you wherever you go. The idea of the app aspida ( stands for shield in greek) was to provide another means of way to reach safety via communicating with the Police department to get help or escort and show locations of emergency blue boxes since there isn't any easy way to do so till now.

What it does

The app currently has a database of most or all of the locations of the emergency blue box locations. It has another service in which it should've have been able to request an escort by just tapping a button, it would then show the campus escort coming towards the client. This would require a more advance setup with the police department beforehand to actually work. Over the Internet protocols or Cellular data would be used to communicate with the police escorts.

How we built it

We built it using JavaScript, Kotlin, and Google Cloud Search Console with the help of Google Maps API.

Challenges we ran into

Linking buttons to pages. Connecting API. Trying to acces Firebase. Merging on github. Lack of Sleep.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learning programming language kotlin for android and IDE android studio. Learning more than before.

What we learned

Kotlin, Google Cloud Search Console, Java

What's next for Aspida

Aspida would be able to grow as we connect with campus and police services. This app would become realiable and efficient as many students would consider the convienience of having a app over a website with all essential services they can acces with a tap. It would also have integrated MFA used for certain campuses. This MFA is called DUO as google sign in for UCR would require the user to sign into their netid, if it is not their school email, they would not get access to campus services reserved for students.
