Inspiration
ASMR Time Travelers was inspired by my love for history, absurd humor, and sensory experiences. I imagined famous historical figures performing surreal ASMR actions—like Cleopatra brushing pearls or Einstein tapping glowing bulbs—in ways that are both relaxing and absurdly entertaining.
What it does
My project is an automated AI-powered system that creates absurdly entertaining ASMR videos featuring famous historical figures. It generates unique characters and props using AI (OpenAI GPT-4.1-mini orchestrated through LangChain), designs surreal ASMR actions for them, and turns these ideas into hyper-realistic videos using Fal AI / Veo 3. The workflow is fully automated in n8n, tracking past characters in Google Sheets to avoid repeats, and producing ready-to-watch ASMR content that blends history, humor, and sensory immersion—all without manual video editing.
How we built it
I built the project solo using n8n to automate the workflow. LangChain agents with OpenAI GPT-4.1-mini generated historical characters, props, and absurd ASMR concepts, which were structured into JSON and sent to Fal AI / Veo 3 for hyper-realistic video generation.
Challenges we ran into
- One of the biggest challenges was funding. As a student, automating posting through tools like Blotato or promoting videos on social media required money, making it difficult to test, share, and showcase the project. Despite this, I focused on building a fully functional pipeline and creatively solving problems with limited resources.
- Another obstacle that kept on coming was the cost of running the Fal API. Since video generation isn’t free, I had to top up $18 as a student just to keep experimenting, which limited how long or how many videos I could generate. That’s why the outputs are short and carefully chosen. Balancing creativity with budget forced me to optimize the workflow and think about how this could scale more efficiently in the future.
Accomplishments that we're proud of

- Successfully generated unique historical characters and absurd ASMR concepts without repeats.
- Learned to combine multiple tools—LangChain, OpenAI, Fal AI / Veo 3, n8n, Google Sheets—into one seamless pipeline.
- Overcame funding and resource constraints to produce a working end-to-end project as a solo student.

What's next for ASMR Time Travellers
- Introduce even more absurd, whimsical, and immersive ASMR interactions.
- Explore additional AI tools or platforms to enhance video realism, audio quality, and visual effects.
- Develop an interface that allows users to suggest or vote on characters and ASMR concepts.
- Share the content more widely by posting videos on social media to reach a larger audience and gather feedback.
- With more resources, generate longer and higher-quality videos, making the ASMR experiences even richer and more immersive.
If given an opportunity, I’ll make the most of it and push this project to its best possible version, scaling it with better resources, collaborating with like-minded creators, and transforming it into a unique blend of history, humor, and ASMR that people can truly enjoy.
