Inspiration

In the digital era, we are more reliant on auditory feedback than ever. We think that all people, regardless of ability, should be able to participate in this modern digital society.

What it does

This program takes input from the webcam and produces text corresponding to ASL signs.

How we built it

We used Python with the MediaPipe library to track the user's finger movements.

Challenges we ran into

We were not able to implement the text recognition portion of the program.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of being able to use the MediaPipe library to access meaningful data and (for some of us) completing our first hackathon project.

What we learned

We learned that we need a focused objective to complete projects.

What's next for ASL Translator

Some of the group members are on a path to learn ASL. Also, Jayson is planning on extending ASL Translator's functionality and implementing the initial objectives.
