Inspiration

There is an increasing trend of students plagiarizing from internet due to lack of resources. One of the major reasons behind this issue is students hesitating to ask questions to professors or other skilled mentors with the fear of getting embarrassed, which never happens. Students feel comfortable to resolve these types of issues by discussing their questions with their peers, which is not occurring as frequent as before, due to the pandemic. In most cases, peers from same level course might not be knowledgeable enough to answer their questions. This is where AskWayne comes into play. This desktop app will allow students to discuss topics with their peers instead of searching solutions online.

How I built it

I started with making diagrams of the architecture. After that, I listed the entities, functions and other components with maximum detail. Finally, I implemented this using Java and Swing.

Challenges I ran into

I had installation issues with MySQL in my PC. I was able to use text files as an alternate.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Considering this is my first hackathon and my first project using Java Swing, I believe I was able to utilize more features than I had expected.

What I learned

Using SOLID design principles might have allowed me enough time to finish all features.

What's next for AskWayne

I plan to implement additional features and software engineering principles.
