Inspiration

I was inspired by the classic Crystal Ball, the universal craving for answers, and the internet’s collective love for dumb humour. I thought: What if you could ask a mystical orb the deepest questions... and it gave you the worst advice imaginable? + Reddit wanted the app to be a silly one

What it does

AskTheBall is a crystal ball–style Reddit app where users can ask yes/no questions and get gloriously stupid responses.

It glows. It hovers. It stalls for dramatic effect. And then it gives you an answer like:

“Ask again after snacks.” “Only if Mercury is in microwave.” “Yes, but emotionally, no.”

Answers appear floating above the orb, because that’s obviously how real psychic energy works.

How we built it

I completely Relied on Bolt, as my brain is not capable to understand coding, this was the first time i typed npm run dev. Devvit is used for the backend hosting instead of bolt

Challenges we ran into

Due to my no coding background, i created 7/8 apps with absolutely no code and just a devitt readme. Took 3 tries to get a readable readme, and 3 days extra on top of the days spent on bolt to build the app , Took a while to get the app working on a new subreddit instead for the one created for testing.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I learned something new, Bolt is an amazing platform for people to create something which they think about who does not want to create a simple game everyone has an idea. Getting the app working is an accomplishment for me

What we learned

Bolt is a fantastic way to bring ideas to life even if they are not the smartest. Troubleshooting takes time

What's next for AskTheBall, a RedditxBolt project

Let users submit their own dumb responses (crowdsourced chaos!), Maybe a smart version but who knows
