Inspiration

Mary Meeker in her 2016 Internet Trends report sites that humans can speak 150 words vs type 46 words a minute. This is an important point for us to ponder on. On a day to day basis, we are moving towards a future where speed of access to information makes or breaks businesses. We no longer get information from text printed on a piece of paper. That era has been replaced decades ago by desktops. Those very desktops are being replaced by mobiles and tablets today. The same trend of moving to a better information access point is going to continue. Where I stand, it sure feels like Voice interaction has the potential to be the next frontier of information consumption and technology breakthroughs.

What it does

Alexa Skill "SeatGeek" answers to users questions that they would typically ask in google and get directed to SeatGeek to checkout their awesome database of events. The skill has "intents" of finding events of your favorite performer and give details of the event. Once SeatGeek enable their ticket purchase api and we can integrate the ticket purchasing via voice. Tickets will be emailed to user. With span of time, SeatGeek skill will have a history of the user's favourite artists and sports person. SeatGeek can then be an affiliate and send merchandise promotions along with ticket purchase confirmation. This is a huge revenue generating idea and a win-win-win scenario for artists-seatgeek-ticketbuyer.

How I built it

Alexa skills kit has a developer portal, where the skill for seat geek is developed. The api is called from nodejs application built in AWS Lambda infrastructure. nodemailer plugin is used for emails. Twilio can be used sms.

Challenges I ran into

It was tricky to integrate email nodejs plugin in Lambda. I got email piece working seperately , needed more time to integrate. The ticket purchase api is not available so had to hardcode the purchase scenario, but if SeatGeek is interested in this idea, we can work on the oath and make api only secure for this app.

We could use shoptiques catalog data API or use exiting ecommerce api's for providing a platform for seat geek's customer to shop and buy merchandise of artists they are interested in, so they can sport a cool T-shirt for the concert they are soon attending.
