Inspiration

We started from Transport for Cairo left us, Transport for Cairo started with the mission to map Cairo transport, which they did, this is when they had the whole picture, but people need to know how to move better and faster, so we started to think of a better way to introduce such data, a trip planning app would be a no brainer to do, so we asked our self how Egyptian ask for travel options, we found our most of them ask their parents or a friend so they are familiar more with asking. So we created Ashruf the idea behind it was it needs to have a local name a local personality,

What it does

Ashruf is local trip planner, he will tell you when to move and which mode you need to take, for example, you can ask him something like "ازاي اروح من المعادي لميدان الحصري" Ashruf will give you options to choose. check our demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAF6RWn6-Xw

How we built it

It is a facebook messenger chatbot so you can go and interact with it directly, we decided to do with FB Messenger as it is in everyone's pocket these days and we still in the proving the hypnosis so no need to manger another code (mobile app), So we built it in the foundation of microservice, and everything interacts via API.

Challenges we ran into

Chatbot is a challenging interface, as the conversational interface is relatively new so we didn't know how to interact with the user in the beginning and then we started to frame the persona and the key goal for the user that when we were able to build a communication flow, we are still learning.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

1.The ease of the onboarding process.

  1. The conversational UI we have now still needed improvement but we are proud of it.
  2. Templating engine to create a custom itinerary for every trip the user asks about.

What we learned

We learned about how to design a persona, how to write as this persona, and how to make it interesting.
