Inspiration
Last year when my son was 8 years old, he asked me a question. Are monkeys smarter or humans? Of course humans I said ... look at the stuff we have made that no animals can make. And he said exactly, they are able to use natural things to make the things and so monkeys are smarter.
This made me think sustainability in a completely different way and I started researching more about how nature survives or builds things. And I realized they have most of the materials with the desired properties that we need except one. They are not permanent materials. Which basically means they are degradable. Do you understand the drift? We have made materials which are by design permanent and hence unnatural. And we have to move away from that.
What it does
We research a currently existing large scale need. Understand the science and material requirements behind it. See a replacement in nature and then get it into production.
How I built it
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge is to get people to change the mindset of having products forever. The roting of things needs to be seen in a positive light rather than negative.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We have been able to come up with some very simple but high impact plant based solutions. If we are able to implement them they can be game changers.
What I learned
I learned that nature is very high tech. We still do not know how exactly Venus fly trap works. We still cannot build a no noise flight like owl. Plants trucks are strong and flexible to withstand hurricanes.
What's next for ASEC Plants for Products
We want to get enough people to believe in the concept so that we can get into manufacturing of the products.
