Inspiration
At present, the problems of a demographic nature are quite relevant due to the fact that for the most part they are highly dependent on the main indicators of the country - from industrial development to healthcare, and are also difficult to solve. For example, the problem of a high level of infant mortality is significant both in our country and throughout the world. Our team is impressed with this issue because in Kazakhstan, one in 169 babies die before the age of 1, ranking 122nd out of 184 countries in terms of infant mortality, according to a UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) report. Also, in many countries, pregnant women are not properly cared for and there is no suitable platform and opportunities for physical therapy and healthcare access. This prompted us to create a project to solve this problem.
What it does
Our project includes a solution with multiple functions based on machine learning and using augmented reality technology. The application will help the expectant mother during the entire period of pregnancy, dividing it into trimesters. In the first and second trimesters, a monthly collection of tests is performed that will help identify any deviations or possible complications. The entire list of necessary analyzes will be provided. The analyzes are sent to the database and processed by artificial intelligence, giving the result in the form of information whether the pregnant woman is obliged to visit the doctor or not, as well as the likelihood of complications. Also, during all trimesters, a personal assistant made with the help of augmented reality plays an important role. It reminds the patient to take the right drugs and helps with physical therapy, suggesting how to perform movements, etc. This allows a woman to receive therapy at home without having to visit a medical center to do so.
How we built it
We reviewed over 30 articles and research studies on pregnancy and the factors that lead to infant mortality.
Challenges we ran into
At the beginning, a big obstacle was to choose an interesting topic and one of our team members had problems with the Internet connection. Further, it was difficult to find reliable information and trusted sources on this topic, since the amount of information on the Internet on the chosen topic is huge, and during the whole process there was an acute shortage of time. Also, none of our team has sufficient experience in participating in such events, so it was new and unusual for us.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We interviewed our pregnant relatives and they really liked our idea. They said that this kind of application would help them a lot and facilitate the period of pregnancy.
What we learned
How best to distribute responsibilities between team members to work within a very limited amount of time.
What's next for Anaga Komek
Our project will reduce infant mortality by predicting the likelihood of possible complications, the number of women suffering from postpartum depression, facilitating the pregnancy period, and reducing the burden on doctors.
