Inspiration

Campus support systems are fragmented, under-utilised, and poorly known. This forces students into a stressful loop of hunting down resources, distracting them from academics and increasing the risk of burnout or dropout. We believe that technology should break down these barriers, not create new ones.

What it does

We designed a mobile-first app that filters by student eligibility and tracks progress, so students will access needed support faster, reducing time and improving academic engagement, as well as retention. Our main key features are:

• 1) User Access & Profiles
• 2) Resource Discovery
• 3) Task & Goal Management
• 4) Calendar Management

How we built it

We first followed a simple UX/UI design process to gather research from resources online, identify user pain points, create personas and user stories, and finally establish some key features. We used FigJam to create user flows to model how a user would navigate the website, and we used Figma to create high fidelity prototypes. Lastly, we used Canva to create an engaging presentation for our video.

Challenges we ran into

Since we had a short amount of time to complete this hackathon and all of us are full time students, we weren’t able to do as much as we wanted and needed to condense our features and goals.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of how much of the UX/UI process we were able to complete in such a short amount of time and how much detail we were able to create in relevance to our goal. We’re also proud of the UI for our prototypes.

What we learned

We learned how to apply parts of the UX/UI design process, how to understand research from reports, studies, and articles, and how to effectively use Figma to create user flows and prototypes. Additionally, we learned to understand our potential users and draw from our own experiences to design an app that would be beneficial to vulnerable college students.

What's next for SJSU Campus Essentials Hub

Some of our future goals include:

• Adding an accessible design with an interactive map and live support from an AI bot or SJSU staff.
• Including leaderboards, friend connections, and an Announcements tab for school updates.
• Integrating academic tools so students can view and add their classes with professors (including ratings), location, and times, to their calendar, and set reminders — all in one place.
