Inspiration
Inspired by Ἀσκληπιός (Asclepius), the ancient god of healing renowned for compassion and restoration, we envisioned more than just an app—we wanted to build a digital sanctuary for health and hope. In today’s fast-paced world, many feel lost navigating their personal health journeys alone, especially in mental wellness and accessibility. Our passion was to create a gentle, empowering companion that blends the power of AI with human empathy, making healthcare approachable and inclusive for all. Asclepius is designed to be more than a tool.......it’s a promise to hold your hand through challenges, celebrate your progress, and connect you with the care and community you deserve. This is healthcare reimagined as care that truly understands and supports you.
What it does
Asclepius provides AI-powered symptom checking, mental health support with journaling and CBT exercises, accessibility features like voice navigation, and community health tracking with emergency response—all wrapped in a clean, light, and calming UI. 🩺
How we built it
1.Used React Native for cross-platform mobile app development, allowing simultaneous deployment on iOS and Android with a single codebase, speeding up development and maintenance. 2.Integrated open-source AI models for symptom analysis and sentiment detection in mental health journaling, leveraging advanced natural language processing and medical AI tools. 3.Connected with public health APIs to provide real-time updates on disease outbreaks, vaccination rates, and emergency alerts, ensuring users received current community health information. 4.Prioritized accessible UI/UX design, including voice navigation for visually impaired users and multilingual support to cater to diverse populations, ensuring inclusivity. 5.Powered backend services with secure cloud infrastructure, implementing end-to-end encryption, role-based access control, and compliance with healthcare privacy standards like HIPAA and GDPR.
Challenges we ran into
1.Balancing complex AI functionality with a clean, simple, and intuitive user interface to avoid overwhelming users while maintaining powerful features. 2.Ensuring accessibility across diverse user groups, including the elderly, visually impaired, and non-native speakers, requiring iterative testing and feedback incorporation. 3.Managing real-time data streams for public health alerts and wearable integrations without latency or reliability issues. 4.Navigating privacy and regulatory compliance, which required rigorous data security measures, frequent audits, and transparent user consent mechanisms. 5.Integrating multiple distinct modules (AI triage, mental wellness, accessibility, public health) into one cohesive and seamless user experience represented a significant architectural challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
1.Built a scalable modular architecture that efficiently supports diverse health domains, enabling easy addition of future features. 2.Delivered a robust AI Copilot assistant that guides users across multiple app functions with adaptive, personalized support. 3.Achieved a privacy-first design ethos, earning user trust through encrypted communication, anonymous mental health interactions, and compliance with healthcare regulations. 4.Developed a highly accessible app that supports voice navigation, multilingual capabilities, and wearable device integration to empower a broad spectrum of users. 5.Successfully merged AI technology with empathetic design to create a platform that feels caring and inclusive rather than clinical or overwhelming.
What we learned
Healthcare apps must blend tech innovation with deep empathy for users’ varied needs. Accessibility and privacy are non-negotiable foundations. Modular architecture allows expanding features efficiently. Real-time community data enhances impact and engagement. 📚
What's next for Asclepius 1.0
We plan to enhance AI accuracy with user feedback, add multilingual emotional support bots, expand telemedicine integration, and launch wearable device partnerships for richer real-time monitoring. Community features will include more gamified wellness challenges too! 🚀
