1) Inspiration
We participated in this challenge mainly because of the precious learning opportunity to transform theoretical concepts learned in classrooms into applicable business models. We chose door-to-door haircut as our business model because it is a necessity to millennials and haircut business suffered a lot during the COVD-19 pandemic,
2) Learnings
We learned how difficult it is to start a new business because we need to take so many different factors into account. We also learned that higher education has prepared us well to think critically and creatively to come up with tangible solutions to real-life problems in the business world.
3) How we built it
We built this project by dividing up work so that we could each contribute to the word document. We have 5 team members and each of us is in charge of 1-2 sections in the word document. We did the PowerPoint slides and the video together.
4) Challenges we faced
The biggest challenge is teamwork. Most people in the team are college students and one is a PwC professional, so it is difficult for us to arrange a time that works for everyone. I am glad that the whole team works well with each other and everyone tried their best to finish their parts (we divided up the work). Another challenge is the "financial plan" and "operational plan" since it is hard to come up with the real numbers for break-even point and other data points, so we consulted with our mentor Geroge Tuan-Mu and other professionals to get some feedback from them.
5) What's next for Ascend Impact Challenge (Trojan Quaranteam)
We did our best and we are satisfied regardless of the results. We appreciate for Ascend in providing such a great chance for us to learn!
