Inspiration

Our inspiration was that so many innocent people die every day due to suicide because they feel depressed or have things like anxiety. Most of the time people feel helpless because they feel like they don't have anyone to talk to. We wanted an app that can change this, and this was our inspiration and way we thought we could give back to the community.

What it does

Our app works to improve the mindsets of people in our community and around the world. Whenever someone is feeling down, we do our best job to lift them up and have the ability to have a person speak with them or just give an uplifting message. We tried to make the app as simplistic as possible so that we can stay straight to the point.

How we built it

We used Java to make a user interface, which is the entire foundation for our project. First, we opened up a BLUEJ and started writing our code. We created multiple classes (Registration Class, SSpace Class, General Location Class, Exact Location Class). For our Helper Class, we used Button Class and ActionListener Class. These classes connect together and are the main components to our app. We used graphical design to make our app look more user friendly and aesthetically pleasing.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into a couple of challenges. First, when making our classes and interfaces we needed to figure out how to make everything fall into place correctly. Another challenge was coming up with an idea that had a real standing impact on our society. This took some time, but eventually we were able to get through it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The biggest accomplishment was finishing our code and our overall idea. We had some challenges but once we got the ball rolling it was all downhill from there.

What we learned

We learned a lot during our time at Phoenix Hacks. For example, while programming we didn't think about cybersecurity when getting user data for registration. However, after this we thought about it wanted to incorporate within our app.

What's next for ASaferSpace

The next step for ASaferSpace is to actually make it a simple, secure app that can save lives. We want a mentor that can help us take this app to the next level so one day we might actually publish it. We want to make the community we came from a better space after it gave all 3 of us such a supportive environment.
