Inspiration

In emergency situations, every second is critical. However, in real life, ambulances often waste valuable time searching for hospitals with available ICU beds, blood units, or required facilities. This delay can cost lives. We were inspired to solve this real-world problem by building a system that reduces decision-making time during emergencies using AI and real-time data simulation.

What it does

CodeBlue AI is an AI-powered emergency response system that connects patients, ambulances, and hospitals in real time. It: Detects patient location using browser geolocation Identifies nearest available ambulance Matches patient needs (ICU, blood, trauma care) with suitable hospitals Uses AI (Gemini) to analyze emergency input (text/voice) Displays real-time-like ambulance movement and ETA Provides hospital resource visibility (beds, blood units, availability)

How we built it

We built the prototype using a frontend-first approach for rapid development: Frontend: React + Vite AI Integration: Google Gemini API (Gemini 1.5 Flash) Location Access: Browser Geolocation API Maps: OpenStreetMap (Leaflet) / simulated UI Logic: Distance-based calculations (Haversine formula) The system simulates real-time updates using interval-based state changes to mimic live ambulance tracking and hospital updates.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating APIs without prior backend experience Managing API keys securely in frontend environment Handling real-time simulation without backend infrastructure Designing role-based dashboards (User, Driver, Hospital) Avoiding dependency on paid APIs like Google Maps

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully built a working prototype within hackathon time Integrated AI for emergency understanding (text + voice-ready design) Created a real-time-like ambulance tracking simulation Designed multi-role system (User, Driver, Hospital dashboards) Delivered a complete end-to-end emergency flow UI

What we learned

How to integrate AI APIs into real-world applications Importance of system design over just coding Handling environment variables securely (.env.local) Simulating backend behavior using frontend logic Building impactful solutions under time constraints

What's next for CodeBlue AI

Future improvements include: Backend integration (Node.js / Firebase) for real-time sync Direct integration with hospital databases (EHR systems) Live GPS tracking for ambulances Traffic-aware smart routing Government and private hospital onboarding Scalable deployment for city-wide emergency systems
