Briefly describe your project in relation to the challenge prompt

ArtVoyage is a mobile app that cultivates creative expression through art and culture. Through the application, users can experience a virtual art gallery and learn about other cultures in the process. Artists are also able to share their heritage and culture through a variety of art forms and create a story through their creative works. Viewers are able to view artwork from every corner of the world. Through this application, users can connect with other artists, learn about various cultures, and express their heritage through art and creativity.

Describe your main design decisions and how they contribute to your product

Our inspiration comes from visiting museums frequently. As students from New Jersey, many museums are in New York, leading to far commutes and a requirement for public transportation. This leads to museums being slightly inaccessible to us and prevents us from admiring various forms of artwork. We also recognized that there were no virtual museums on a mobile app, only websites. Based on our research, we found that the only way people can share their artwork is through various social media platforms, personal blogs, and retail sites such as Etsy. Lastly, in our research, we noticed that people of color hide their heritage because they feel as though they are a minority. However, people of color have utilized various methods of art to freely express their heritage and share what they love about their culture. After deciding on the main features, we created the high-fidelity mockups using Figma. We decided to create a feature section on the homepage to celebrate AAPI Heritage Month to highlight the voices of cultural minorities. Artwork helps lift the minority voices and showcase their beautiful culture. In addition, on the "Artwork From Brazil" page, we created a collage of artworks to create a virtual presentation of what it would look like when artworks are displayed at in-person museums. We also created an explore page where users can view virtual art museums dedicated to artworks from their respective cultures and heritage. This allows the user to learn about other cultures through art and enables the artist to represent their heritage and cultural background creatively. Lastly, we chose to incorporate dark mode into our design to help ease the eyes.
