An android app to rate the worst arts and review crafts project 5/5

Inspiration

Most of the time people get confused with their crafts work, especially children get demotivated when they find their work not being appreciated. So, we have built it for rating the worst projects with 💩 and 5/5 for fun and motivating the children to not lose hope and work on their crafts to make it better. Our idea is a rotten tomatoes for arts and crafts projects i.e. a review app where only bad reviews are allowed.

What it does

First the user logins through google and facebook authentication where it shows the projects to be displayed and there is a rating page where one can rate the worst projects found and instead of putting 5/5 rating in best projects we are giving 5/5 ratings to the worst craft made just for fun and motivate them to improve their crafts work. Instead of stars you have a particular emoji for the rating.

How we built it

We built it using Java for android. The application connected to a remote backend and CloudSQL server that were both hosted on Google Cloud. The backend application was created using Python Flask and can be seen at https://hackand-crafts.uc.r.appspot.com/. Unfortunately, we were unable to connect our hosted CloudSQL instance with our Google Cloud python project due to budget limitations, but we developed the infrastructure to connect the two together.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The app is almost done just a better UI needs to be implemented.

What we learned

We learnt all about android studio, working with app development and teamwork and cooperation.

What's next for ARTSandCRAPS

The next thing we want to introduce here is various emojis for different projects made in arts and crafts and many more new features to make it cool and enjoyable for children.
