Inspiration

As digital artists, we were inspired by the frustrations we personally experienced with other platforms and the disconnect between the art community and social apps. Some artists are able to create a sense of community on popular platforms like Twitter and Instagram, but these apps favor influencers and companies more. Artists are often victims to algorithms and random content strikes that stifle their creativity and hinder their ability to grow as content creators. When these concerns are brought to the attention of these apps, they are continuously ignored because we are not the main focus.

What is the problem your solution addresses?

Artpiary addresses the problem that many social media platforms place more emphasis on influencers and businesses over artists, affecting both their creativity and their potential to flourish as content creators. Artist's concerns are repeatedly dismissed because we are not their priority.

Why did you pick this solution and how does it address the problem?

Artpiary is a platform that creates communities through art. Because of community pages and the way posts are chosen to be featured, art will have a shelf-life of more than just one day. Additionally, Artpiary provides a way for art to be communal, with profile assets created by the community, for the community, and freely used in the community. There are multiple features where people can interact and support one another, through chatrooms and the ability to commission one another.

Algorithmic problems are solved through the moderator curation of featured posts, and the way Artpiary is specifically designed for artist and communities means that artist's concerns will be heard. As a result of a more supportive environment for their work, artists will also be able to grow more.

How we built it

Artpiary was built entirely in Figma, with digital art drawn in Photoshop and Clip Studio Paint

Challenges we ran into

We ran into some challenges regarding making decisions and filtering what was specifically integral to promote interaction in order to create that sense of community.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the way we were able to ideate the concept for this project and come up with our visual identity.

What we learned

Since this is our first designathon, we learned a lot about creating and documenting a product within strict time constraints, as well as ways to work efficiently together!

What's next for Artpiary

We'd love to expand on the concept in the future and apply what we gained from this experience to future work.
