Inspiration
Living in Japan, I've always been inspired by the hidden art pieces scattered throughout the cities. This treasure trove of art fuels my passion for making these cultural gems accessible to everyone. I wanted to create a platform that encourages people to appreciate art in their everyday lives, fostering a more engaged and informed audience.
What it does
Our platform addresses the challenge that art exhibition information is not widely disseminated. Traditionally, only a select few have access to comprehensive details about art events. We aim to democratize this information by offering a personalized experience that helps users discover art exhibitions tailored to their preferences.
How we built it
We began by conducting interviews with a wide range of people in the art sector—including artists, visitors, curators, and gallery owners—to understand their pain points and needs. This research helped us narrow down which audience groups to focus on. We then manually built and curated our own database of art exhibitions, which we update every two months. The platform incorporates user preferences to generate a personalized gallery route and provides detailed AI-generated reports on why each exhibition was suggested.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was creating a comprehensive database of art exhibitions and integrating it into our platform. Balancing the use of AI and technology with the need to preserve the genuine experience of art appreciation was also difficult. We wanted to ensure that technology enhanced rather than overshadowed the art itself.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully interviewed potential users and engaged in discussions with gallery owners. We have a long-term plan to enhance data collection by allowing users to contribute information. This will help us build a more robust and dynamic database.
What we learned
Understanding what customers truly want is complex. While some users were skeptical about the accuracy of AI recommendations, we focused on the product’s core value: accessibility and personalization. Our goal is to motivate users to take their first steps into the art world, even if the technology isn't always perfect.
What's next for Artomo
We plan to gather user feedback and validate our approach further. Our goal is to refine the product based on real-world use and continue improving how we collect and utilize data.
