ArtLens is an AI-powered museum companion that helps visitors understand the stories behind the art they see, not just its name. Users scan or upload a photo of an artwork, sculpture, or artefact, and the app identifies it and explains why it matters through curated stories, historical timelines, interactive hotspots, audio narration, and answers to their questions. It's built with Vite, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and Node.js, with Google Gemini, CLIP, Transformers.js, and ONNX Runtime handling recognition and content generation, so it runs smoothly in a mobile browser. The main challenge was going beyond basic image recognition to deliver meaningful storytelling and interactive exploration, and the team is proud of turning static artworks into engaging learning experiences. Future plans include AR-based exploration, personalised tours, real-time conversations with artworks, and larger cultural heritage databases, with the long-term vision of making every museum visit a conversation between people and art.
