Inspiration
Many artisans create beautiful handmade products that represent their culture and traditions. However, many of them struggle to sell their work beyond local markets. They often lack access to tools to support marketing, pricing, or understanding demand in global marketplaces.
While exploring online marketplaces like Etsy and Amazon Handmade, I noticed strong global demand for handmade crafts. The challenge is that many artisans do not know how to present their products online or reach international buyers.
This inspired the idea behind ArtisanAI — a tool that uses AI to help artisans tell the story of their crafts and understand how their products might perform in online marketplaces.
What it does
ArtisanAI helps artisans generate product listings and market insights using AI.
By entering a few simple details such as the product name, material, region, and crafting process, the system generates:
-an AI-written product description
-recommended marketplaces
-Demand and competition insights
-estimated profit and market fit score
This helps artisans understand how their products could perform in global e-commerce platforms.
How we built it
The project was built as a full-stack web application.
The frontend was developed using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create a simple and easy-to-use interface.
The backend was built using Python and Flask, which processes user inputs and performs market analysis.
We analyzed a dataset of more than 6000 artisan products using Pandas to estimate demand levels and competition.
For AI-generated product descriptions, the system integrates Amazon Nova through AWS Bedrock.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was integrating AWS Bedrock and Amazon Nova and configuring authentication correctly.
Another challenge was designing a dataset that realistically represents artisan products and market demand.
We also faced some issues while deploying the backend and managing environment variables for cloud services.
These challenges required debugging and experimentation to make the system work reliably.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully built a working prototype that combines AI storytelling with market analysis.
The system can generate useful insights and product descriptions from just a few inputs.
We are also proud that the project focuses on empowering artisans and supporting traditional crafts using modern technology.
What we learned
Through this project we learned how to integrate AI models into real applications, analyze datasets using Pandas, and build and deploy full-stack web applications.
We also learned how to manage cloud APIs, environment variables, and backend deployment.
Most importantly, we learned how technology can help support creative communities and traditional craftsmanship.
What's next for ArtisanAi
In the future, ArtisanAI could include features such as multilingual product listings, real-time marketplace trend analysis, and automated marketing tools.
A mobile-friendly version could also make the platform easier for artisans to use.
The long-term goal is to help artisans turn traditional crafts into globally discoverable products.
