Inspiration
The country has declared a national emergency. Individuals are recommended to wash our hands, wear masks so we do not touch our face and social distance. Touch has become scary -- even dangerous. However, humans need touch.
What it does
There is a virtual hand signaling touch, and I wanted it to be almost see through to represent "artificial touch." When we press and hold, hearts come out of it. We are sending love to people and things we touch. We are giving them positive energy and love. Significantly, even though we cannot physical touch because of the virus, we could still do so virtually and I thought the power of touch could be demonstrated by AR technology.
How I built it
I used a texture for the hand, and an image for the heart. After, I tied it to the interaction of touch and hold.
Challenges I ran into
I did not want the result to be a draw. Nor did I want it to be an emitter. I wanted the "touch" to have impact as physical touch does. Therefore, I spent hours making sure the result is perfect.
I also deliberately wanted the hand to be visible as the theme of my project is called Artificial Touch.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am happy with the result as when you touch and hold. I feel like the angle, amount, and the impact of hearts make a person feel happy, positive and loved. I want to design for humanity.
What I learned
One lesson I learned is that simplicity is impactful. Even with designing the hearts that symbolize love and positivity, each amount, rate and angle changes the effect.
What's next for Artificial Touch
I wish for humanity to feel connected to each other during this virus crises and never be ungrateful for the power of touch.
