As the sole developer of ArteritisAid, I conceptualized, designed, and built the entire project from scratch. Inspired by a family member’s struggle with arteritis, I envisioned a platform that combines AI-driven medical advice, practical tools, and community support. I developed the frontend using HTML, CSS (with Tailwind CSS), and JavaScript, ensuring a responsive and accessible UI with features like dark mode and a calming sea wave background. I integrated Perplexity’s Sonar API to power the Medical Chatbot and Daily Health Tip features, handling API calls through a serverless function (api/proxy.js) on Vercel. I also implemented the Symptom Tracker with Chart.js for data visualization and the Community Forum using localStorage for simplicity. Throughout the process, I tackled challenges like monorepo deployment issues on Vercel, API error handling, and UI debugging, ensuring a polished prototype. Additionally, I recorded and edited the demo video using OBS Studio, showcasing the app’s features, and prepared all submission materials, including this Devpost entry, to meet the hackathon deadline.
