Environmental Pillar Submission
Inspiration
We wanted to create a social, gamified platform for outdoor enthusiasts to explore nature, challenge themselves, and contribute to environmental research while staying connected with friends and like-minded individuals.
What it does
- Connect hikers with fellow enthusiasts through online forums and live location sharing.
- Explore new trails and nature reserves with curated content, user-generated reviews, and GPS-guided maps.
- Compete in fun challenges and leaderboards that promote environmentally-friendly habits and outdoor achievements.
- Contribute to nature research initiatives through citizen science projects and data collection.
How we built it
We built this program to run on a hikers phone through a mix of React Native, Flask, and SQL
Challenges we ran into
The largest challenge we ran into was fighting the urge to add more features while still remaining within a reasonable timeframe. Staying up all night was also quite the challenge xD
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Connecting the gap between the front end and the back end, connecting important infrastructure together and bringing an amazing product to fruition. Having the frontend be cohesive was also very satisfying.
What we learned
We learned teamwork, perseverance, and bringing together different skill sets to build a cohesive and fun team experience.
What's next for Artemis
- Integration with popular outdoor gear and service providers.
- Expansion to new regions and languages.
- Development of virtual and augmented reality experiences for immersive outdoor exploration.
