Art Routes

The Problem

During the lockdown in Europe museums and galleries are closed. Art can’t be showed to the public and that is a waste. But maybe more important at the moment is this financial disaster for these museums and art galleries, since they have no income from ticket sales which can lead to their bankruptcy. Therefore, we want to make art available again, to bring entertainment to people in these difficult times and help organisations to gain money.

Solution

We create Art Routes. Art routes enables people to visit expositions and watch performances in real life. We do this by using the possibilities of cars and the empty buildings and closed museums together.

We want to create Art Routes that can be visited with cars, to make art available to the people again on a safe way. These routes will be made in collaboration with the local museums that have the items on display. Empty halls can also be added to the route acting like a drive-in museum. Besides that, artists are also welcome to create art on the spot for people to see their process. Event organizers can help us with creating these art routes since also their business stopped in this COVID-19 crisis.

What we have done during the weekend

In this hackethon we set up business plan, made a prototype website and created a video to explain our concept.

The solution’s impact to the crisis

With art routes we want to have the following impact:

• Entertain the people safely outside their houses
• Make art available for the public again
• Help museums, theaters, galleries, etc. financially by co-organizing these art routes and employ their staff during these events
• Art Routes can help empty places like event locations or industrial halls to still make use of their locations, since their business got cancelled during the COVID-19 crisis.
• Event organizers can help with planning the event since they got the expertise and also their business is cancelled due to the crisis

The necessities in order to continue the project

• Art collectors have to make their collection available or artists have to perform during the Art Routes
• Museums, theaters, etc. have to organize the Art Routes together with us
• Owners of proper locations must be willing to make them available

The value of your solution(s) after the crisis

After the COVID-19 crisis we want to organize Art Routes without cars to make it more sustainable. So we want to organize them in another way where we envision Art Routes not only as a solution to show art, but also as an art piece itself by making them special. As an example: Art Routes could take place in the mountains or in special buildings.
