Inspiration
Cavemen used art for rituals, communication and spreading messages on cave walls. Centuries later, communities gathered at quilting bees. In the 1920s, the Mexican Mural Movement took art out of private galleries and painted massive public walls to unite a fractured society. Truth is art was always about community. It was using self-expression to unite the world. With the upheaving rise of social media and isolatory digital scopes, the world is forced to tailor to algorithms and compete for likes. This divides artists. While we see more art, we see less collaboration now than ever before. Art has now lost the community aspect of self-expression. We wanted to fix this.
What it does
Our project is a collaborative art form where people add branches to base art that they are inspired by or have created something with it, and you can see the progress of art in real time. Think GitHub but art. By turning static pieces into living, evolving ecosystems, we allow creators across the globe to cross-pollinate ideas and literally watch a community grow an Art Orchard together. We at Art Orchard are anti-isolation and anti-algorithm, and the only way to combat superficial nature is with human connection.
How we built it
We built Art Orchard using HTML and JavaScript for our frontend, with a Python flask server as our backend. We created our database using JSON files, which were stored on the flask server.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Branch system works
- Back-end fully functional
What's next for Art Orchard
- Implementation and actual publishing of the website!
