Inspiration

The hack it ship it hackathon reminded us of pirates. We wanted to do something related to pirates, and we came to the idea of "how much of a pirate the user is."

What it does

Submit a quiz, and based on the quiz results, we will output a score and based on that score, we will give you a pirate "rating."

How I built it

We used html and css for the website and javascript for the quiz.

Challenges I ran into

Eliana: My teammates were difficult to get online, so I did most of the work on my side. I stayed up pretty late and woke up pretty early too, but what is sleep during a hackathon anyways? I also struggled for the whole saturday trying to insert the quiz into the website. I tried learning python inside html, but nothing worked. That's why the quiz and the website are separate as of right now. Also, three teammates left our original team of 7 on the first day. I don't know why, but that caused us to change our plan. We wanted to do image recognition and compare an image of the user with an image of the pirate, but we changed to just a quiz. Finally, there were just some teammates that were difficult to work with. Pretty much no one responded to my discord chat pings yesterday, and that was just plain sad. I know it wasn't because of the time difference since 1) they were active yesterday at the same time and 2) I was waiting for around 16 ish hours. So that was one of the main challenges. I thought I could depend on their skills/knowledge but I was left with figuring things out myself. To end on a positive note, I touched up on a lot of my debugging skills.

Gerald: I helped a bit however because of internet issues I was not able to fully support. Fortunately, my internet issues were resolved I was able to finish the program. I worked on the back end and made a few adjustments to the look of the game.

EDIT: after the hackathon, Gerald told me he was busy and had internet issues.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Eliana: I did a lot of the css myself this time, which was kinda challenging but after searching online, I found out the answers.

Gerald: I was able to help create a fully functional pirate game. I have never done one before

What I learned

Eliana: I learned that a good team and time management is important.

What I learned. Gerald: Never give up. You must always persevere until you make it. I also learnt that time managements skills are important

What's next for ARRR you a pirate?

I plan to try to get the quiz into the website, and that should be one of the most important finishing touches.

EDIT: We finished our project(yay!) and now it is fully functioning.
