Inspiration

Our inspiration was to try to solve the issue of white ignorance. We wanted to make a website that explored a new culture every month maybe and every day there would be quick links and access to articles/pictures/videos of a different aspect of that culture. That way anyone can learn something new every day and regularly expose themselves to other styles of living.

What it does

Around the World provides users with information about Pakistan, Russia, South Korea and Zimbabwe. It gives the user a short decision about the cultures in each country and provides ways to find more information about a certain aspect of the culture.

How we built it

We built this website starting from a free to use template. We had many ideas we wanted to add to the site, so we worked on gathering information and changing up the code to fit our needs. We worked with HTML, CSS, Javascript and Twilio.

Challenges we ran into

One of the challenges we ran into was incorporating Twilio into our website. None of us have used Twilio before so it was a completely new experience. However, we did ask the amazing mentors for assistance and they were able to help us but it did not work out.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of completing our website within the allocated time for starters, helped each other through various problems and collaborated to come up with an amazing website.

What we learned

With the help of this hackathon we learned more programming languages and how to incorporate various new skills on our project. Furthermore, we all learned how to work in a team and share our knowledge.

What's next for Around the World

Our initial idea was to create a calendar with information for 12 different countries representing each month. However due to time constraints, we had to adjust our idea and change up a few things to complete our project.
