🌱 Inspiration
Mental healthcare in India is expensive, slow, and fragmented. Psychiatric and psychological therapy sessions often cost ₹3,000–₹4,000 per visit, not because care is inefficient—but because mental health treatment is time-intensive. Doctors spend a significant portion of each session reading handwritten prescriptions 📄, old reports, and fragmented histories before they can even begin clinical reasoning. With ~4,500 psychologists for a population of 1.4 billion, this inefficiency limits access, increases burnout, and raises costs. Missed context due to time pressure can also lead to misdiagnosis or suboptimal treatment. ArogyaManas was built to directly address this systemic problem.
🧠 What it does
ArogyaManas is a longitudinal mental health intelligence platform that compresses years of patient history into seconds of understanding using Gemini 3. It digitizes prescriptions, assessments, medications, supplements, vitals, family history, and clinical notes into a structured, visual timeline. Psychiatrists and psychologists receive clear summaries, trend graphs, and risk flags—allowing them to focus time on care, not paperwork.
🛠️ How we built it
ArogyaManas combines:
📊 Longitudinal timelines for symptoms, scores, and medications
🧾 Handwritten prescription scanning (done by Gemini 3)→ OCR → structured records
🧬 Family mental health tree & comorbidity mapping
📈 Visual trends for vitals, vitamins, and medicine exposure
🤖 Gemini-powered clinical summaries (assistive, not decisive)
🆔 ABHA integration to align with India’s national digital health infrastructure
Why ABHA matters
ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) enables secure, consent-based health data exchange across India. Mental health records are often scattered across clinics, making continuity of care difficult. ABHA allows ArogyaManas to create portable, lifelong mental health histories, reducing repeated tests, repeated evaluations, and wasted consultation time.
💸 Reducing the cost of mental healthcare
Mental health care is expensive because time is expensive. By reducing the time doctors spend reading, reconstructing, and verifying patient histories, ArogyaManas enables clinicians to see more patients per day without compromising care quality.
This leads to:
Lower per-session cost over time
Better utilization of limited mental health professionals
Faster, more accurate clinical decisions
Reduced risk of misdiagnosis due to missing context
Efficiency → Access → Affordability
⚠️ Challenges we ran into
Highly unstructured mental health data
Variability in handwritten prescriptions
Clinical safety and explainability requirements
Designing calm, non-alarming medical visuals
🏆 Accomplishments we’re proud of
Built a clinical-grade intelligence layer for psychiatry
Turned fragmented paper records into actionable insights
Designed specifically for India’s healthcare constraints
Aligned with ABDM and ABHA from day one
📚 What we learned
True healthcare innovation isn’t about replacing doctors—it’s about giving them time back. In mental health, time saved directly translates into lower costs and better outcomes.
🚀 What’s next for ArogyaManas
Deeper ABHA interoperability
Patient-reported outcomes & remote assessments
Multilingual support for Bharat 🌏
Research-ready, de-identified longitudinal data
ArogyaManas is not just digitizing records—it’s making mental healthcare more affordable, accessible, and humane for India.
