Inspiration
I wanted to see if i could replicate the same realtime collaboration experience that Iron Man and Jarvis have in the movies.
What it does
This is a infinite shooter game where the goal is to get the highest score by killing enemies, and getting your suit upgraded by earning credits and having you ai copilot decide when the best time to get upgrades and what upgrades to get are based on the realtime game state.
How we built it
I used WebMCP and Codex to build out all the assets, I used chatgpt sites for the hosting. I gave the agent a lot of webmcp tools to interact with the game, and a initial prompt that allows it to run in a loop until the player dies in the game.
Challenges we ran into
I wanted to make the game use voice dictation for the experience, but it was really lacking because when clicking outside the browser the interaction in the game would stop and you would need to click back the browser. It made it so the experience was not that smooth. I decided to solve it wby making the agent always operate in a loop as long as the player is still alive, and giving the user the option to request the agent for upgrades, but the agent can still reason about it and either accept or deny the request.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am really proud of how the overall game feels, It is the first game that i have made that I actually have fun playing. I also really like the vibe that i gave the game, really comic like, and keeping the playability really simple. At first i wanted like full control with keyboard arrows for movement, but it overcomplicated the game, and keeping it simple with just the spacebar control made immediate sense after i tried it. I am also proud of how real the game can feel at times when you need the help of your ai copilot and it gives you that sense of urgency, as you wait for it to react and hopefully reasoning the correct outcome for you.
What we learned
I learned that the webmcp protocol is really powerful, but still has some features that would make the protocol even better, like adding a Agents.md for the site that immediately tells the agent about the site. I got over this by just giving the agent a long prompt about the website. I also learned that keeping the tools as much client side as possible is the best way to use webmcp because in teh case of chatgpt sites i would sometimes get rate limited and the ai would stop playing the game
What's next for Armored Ascent
After the challenge i am planning on soft launching it on twitter, and depending on its success i would love to add more enemies to the game, give the agent more tools, maybe give the players the ability to have their own builds as the webmcp allows to have dynamic tools depending on state, so you could imagine people choosing their own powerups, or even leveling up to unlock new powerups. I feel it could be a cool game that is a first of its kind Human to AI collaboration. I love that in the game you can go far alone, but you go further with your AI.
