Inspiration

Having spent countless hours playing FIFA with friends during high school, university and beyond, we easily got excited about leveraging smart contracts to enhance the thrill that comes with the game. Every one of these games has had a competitive spirit to it, that has left a longing for a product like Arina.

What it does

Arina takes friendly competitions to the next level. Wether it is a wager on events, games like FIFA or chess, or any other fun competition - friends can now use smart contracts to compete against each other for money.

Bob and Sally are playing FIFA, they can create a competition on Arina and deposit their wager amount. The full amount will then go to the winner after both players have confirmed who won. If there is no consensus on the winner, the money remains in the smart contract and Bob and Sally can compete again to determine the winner.

Alice and Mike are also in the room, and place wagers on who they think will win. Their contributions are now added to the total prize pool, that will be split among the winning side. Once a winner has been determined, the winning side can claim their share of the prize pool.

How we built it

We built this app using NEAR smart contracts, a firebase database and a react native front end interface. Our app is therefore both mobile and desktop friendly.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge when building consumer experiences like this is still dealing with third party wallets. It is an unpleasant user experience that would turn off 99% of the total addressable market for such a product. The product itself is quite simple, a smart contract, a database and a frontend, showing the potential for innovation at the wallet level.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The speed and ease with which we are now able to ship NEAR based smart contracts and products.

What we learned

We have been successful in leveraging AI to accelerate our frontend development, allowing for more time in optimising the backend systems.

What's next for Arina

We will roll out an alpha version to the Blackdragon Memecoin community which will allow as a limited scope test environment on mainnet. Pending positive feedback and updates to the user experience, we then roll this out across other tokens such as USDC.
