Inspiration
In our public transportation, there exists an environment where you must always be alert and looking whether you are at your stop, and for people with long commutes, this often results in less sleep and less workplace efficiency. To help solve this, we designed a Location-based alarm system, allowing users to submit a position on a map, and have the app remind you based on a specific location. This allows users with long commutes to possibly sleep, allowing them the peace of good rest and better ability to thrive in their workplace environment.
What it does
Our app allows users to create a map marker and then allows them to be reminded/alerted when they get within 250 meters of the radius.
How we built it
We build this program in React-Native, Google Cloud Platform, and the Google Maps API.
Challenges we ran into
A major challenge we ran into would be the setup of Expo-cli, the major package our app runs on, which had numerous issues with many packages we required to make the system work. However, after much work, we were able to push through and develop a fully working app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We went head-first into React Native for this project, and we are proud that we were able to figure out the language to a working level, allowing us to produce this app.
What we learned
React Native
What's next for Are we there yet?
Next, we plan on developing more features, adding a search bar to further integrate with the google maps api, and flesh out the features more than we already have.
