Inspiration

Food is our top priority, obviously. However, we managed to do at least some of the project. Admittedly, we started kind of lost as a team with little JavaScript and HTML knowledge and no arduino experience. We hardly even considered this challenge in the first 30 minutes. However, after getting just a little bit more information on the challenge, we knew this event was about a challenge, and what's more of a challenge than learning something brand new and using tech we had never seen before! Most of our inspiration came from just forcing the idea that these were separate machines just communicating together instead we thought of smartwatches and how their many tools and programs all come together to create something amazing.

What It Does

Danger Ranger collects data about the temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure and measures the current environment's threat level, informing the user of it. The user can set a custom range for each reading depending on their environment. These encrypted transmissions allow a user to have real-time information on their environment and alerts to threats.

How We Built It

We used our smarts, creativity, and anger to connect the provided Arduinos to a website. The statistics are constantly being tracked by a central web server hosted on the OLED Arduino to check their threat levels and update accordingly to the user's device.

Challenges We Ran Into

Besides our lack of knowledge in the languages and Arduino, establishing a connection between the Arduino and the web server was the majority of the 24 hours. All in all, the project was all worth it when we were finally able to see the temperatures, pressures, and humidities updating live right on our mobile devices.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

With our group's little experience in HTML, JavaScript, and arduino's as a whole, we are honestly just proud of how much we learned in just 24 hours and made it so much farther than we could have thought just 24 hours ago.

What We Learned

Two of our members had little to no experience in both JavaScript and HTML and none of our members had ever used arduino's before, let alone multiple. However, the project itself was not the only learning method throughout the event. We went to as many breakout sessions as possible to take in all we could, even going to sessions that were not specified for our project. We were just interested in learning about the topics as a whole.

What's Next for Danger Ranger

With Danger Ranger being a swift and lightweight program, users can easily load the application on any mobile device that supports barometric, humidity, and temperature readings. Also, Danger Ranger can easily implement APIs to quickly expand upon the base code and become a full-fledged mainstream application.
