Inspiration
We wanted to build something native to iPhone Duo without limiting the idea to one specific use of the hinge or display. So we built Arden: users describe the game they want, and the agent creates it while deciding how Duo's screen, fold states, and hinge can best fit that game.
What it does
Arden turns a prompt into a playable game on iPhone Duo.
The agent creates the game and its controls together. A racing game might get steering and acceleration controls, while another game might use buttons, a joystick, or the hinge itself.
How we built it
We built Arden in Swift with SwiftUI and SpriteKit with OpenAI APIs. RevenueCat SDK. Codex was used for coding.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was supporting different games and fold states without hardcoding every layout.
We also had to make sure Duo features were used where they naturally fit the game, rather than applying the same interaction to every experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a full loop where users can describe a game, have the agent design it, generate its controls, and play it directly on Duo.
The same system can produce different games, layouts, and control schemes from the same app.
What we learned
Your phone can be a console - it just needs software that respects the fold. And when an agent makes the game, players stop being limited by what's in the store.
What's next for Arden
More game types, richer levels, better art and sound, and more ways for the agent to use Duo's hardware.
