The inspiration for this project comes from our team's deep interest in the scientific publishing community and the struggles they have in relation to publishing. From here we thought that we could offer a solution that is both safer and more sophisticated as an alternative.

What it does

When an author seeks to publish an article, they submit it to SciNet. SciNet will incorporate their work into the chain and distribute it to fellow members of the chain for peer review. Just like in the traditional publication process, the peer reviewers give the original author revisions to make. These later revisions of the paper are later uploaded onto the chain. After the peer reviewing process, the network calculates the impact the paper had in the network by weighing metrics such as the peer review scores, the citation impacts, and distribution of the paper. Additionally, it calculates the impact of the author in the network, weighing their past publications, their peer review service to other authors in the network and how much they contribute to hosting the network. This process is organic and dynamics: constantly going on. Ultimately, our goal is to reward authors in the network to for publishing good science.

How we built it

We built this tool using Hedera as our backend chain which interacts with the react front-end

Challenges we ran into

The main technical challenge we ran into was understanding blockchain properties and the technology use case. After this, we were able to implement on-chain commands with Hedera.

We are proud of our growth as a team from a place where we have no experience with blockchain programming to a spot where we are able to build a blockchain-based application.
