In the disability and aged care sector there are many residents who require regular medications. A medication error occurs when a medication has been improperly administered or lost. If the improper administration results in overdose or under dose of a critical medicine it can be detrimental to the residents health. Most aged care and disability settings use what are commonly refereed to as drug charts for keeping track of medication administration. Each resident has their own drug chart which contain the medications they require for each day and the people administering the medications sign a box to confirm that they have administered said medication. The problem arises when there are errors in documentation. This is usually the result of people accidentally signing for the wrong medication, the wrong time, the wrong dose etc and can lead to a flow on effect to other proceeding medication administrations. The aim of our web app Archimedes is to help reduce the likelihood of documentation errors and shift the records of medication administrations from paper to online where there is little chance of records being damaged or going missing. Archimedes achieves this by replacing the cramped messy and outdated paper records with a sleek UI that improves readability and reduces errors. Archimedes is built using Ruby on rails, despite not being overly confident in our abilities at the beginning we are very proud of the finished product.
