Planning real-time information and evacuation in emergency situations presents a challenge for offices, schools, and other organizations. We built an emergency evacuation application which allows users to streamline evacuation and edit necessary evacuation routes based on new hazards, such as fires blocking doorways, via ArcGIS Online functionality.

This application would sound an alert to notify users once an emergency is declared in the building. It then displays a real-time map of the building which routes users to the closest available exit. Once the user makes it to the designated evacuation area, an update will be automatically sent to the administrator, notifying them of the employees safety. This administrator role can also declare an emergency, send an alert to registered users, update blocked exits, and access the statistics report after the evacuation.

This proof-of-concept focuses on fire-based emergencies, but we anticipate this software can be scoped to handle hurricanes, tornados, active shooters, and other emergencies.
