Inspiration

The inspiration for our project, AWS Chronicles, stems from our collective nostalgic gaming background and a strong desire to support and uplift startups. We wanted to create a gamified lottery platform that not only offers addictive grinding gameplay but also contributes a portion of the profits to assist other startups. We believe that by combining the elements of gaming and philanthropy, we can foster a sense of community and provide a unique experience to our users.

What it does

AWS Chronicles is a season-based competition that adds an exciting twist to the gamified lottery experience. In this unique concept, the jackpot is awarded to the player with the strongest weapon at the end of each season.

Here's how AWS Chronicles operates with its enchantments, upgrades, and transparency:

Weapon Upgrades and Enchantments:

To enhance their chances of winning the jackpot, players can upgrade their weapons. Upgrading is done by choosing one out of four enchantments, each with a 25% chance of success. Players must pay a small fee to select an enchantment and increase their weapon's power. This adds the element of risk to the game, as players await the outcome of their chosen enchantment.

The Role of Luck:

Luck plays a vital role in AWS Chronicles. If luck blesses the chosen enchantment, the player's weapon advances to the next level, increasing their chances of winning the jackpot. However, if luck doesn't favor them, the weapon is destroyed, and the player must try again with a new enchantment. This risk-reward mechanism keeps the competition dynamic and encourages players to make strategic choices.

Allocation of Fees:

When players pay the small fee to choose an enchantment, 80% of these fees are redirected to the grand prize. This ensures that the jackpot grows with each player's contribution, creating an enticing reward for the season's winner. The remaining 20% of the fees are allocated to the team behind AWS Chronicles and a startup of choice, which will be able to use the money to pay for its Amazon AWS costs.

Transparency through VRF:

To maintain transparency and fairness, AWS Chronicles utilizes the Verifiable Random Function (VRF) technology. The VRF ensures that the selection of enchantments and the determination of winners are conducted in a provably fair manner. This eliminates any doubts or concerns about the integrity of the lottery outcomes, fostering trust among the participants.

Season Continuity with Automation: Automation plays a crucial role in maintaining the continuity of the seasons in AWS Chronicles. It facilitates the seamless transition between seasons, including tasks such as resetting player weapons, updating the jackpot, and initiating the next competition. By leveraging automation, the platform ensures a smooth and efficient experience for both players and the team managing the lottery.

How we built it

AWS Chronicles was built on the Polygon network, leveraging its high throughput and low transaction costs. We utilized smart contracts to create the lottery system, ensuring trust and security through the blockchain's immutable nature. The integration of the VRF allowed us to generate random numbers on-chain, eliminating any potential biases or manipulations. We also integrated Automation into our platform to streamline various processes, such as ticket distribution, prize allocation, and fund transfers. The Chainlink Automation not only enhanced user experience but also reduced manual efforts for the team and brought on-chain guarantees to users.

Challenges we ran into

One of the significant challenges we encountered during the hackathon was coordinating the development of the project while working remotely. As a distributed team, effective communication was crucial to ensure everyone was on the same page and progress was aligned. We leveraged various collaboration tools, such as video conferencing, project management software, and real-time messaging platforms, to bridge the distance and maintain constant communication. Overcoming this challenge not only strengthened our teamwork skills but also taught us valuable lessons in remote project coordination.
