Inspiration
ArcadeFolio is inspired by the colorful design of vintage arcade games, especially Pacman. While starting this project, our team aimed to free portfolios from their traditional and boring structure. Incorporating the aesthetic of arcade games into the design provides spectators with a captivating and eye-catching experience. They will experience excitement and a sense of nostalgia as they browse the portfolio, making them think of their favorite arcade games. They will be taken on a dynamic trip through your abilities and achievements thanks to the interactive nature of the portfolio, which will make a lasting impression.
What it does
ArcadeFolio's main page draws inspiration from Pacman's Maze. While the rectangular shape of the maze is kept, we have changed the inside to resemble a rising sun and the background a night sky with stars. In each corner of the sun are four cats inspired by the ghosts of the Packman game. By clicking any of these corners, users are transported to the corresponding tab, where they can explore and learn more about the individual's resume, team project, individual project, and contact information. ArcadeFolio seamlessly blends an iconic arcade aesthetic with an intuitive interface, ensuring a captivating and user-friendly experience for anyone who engages with the portfolio.
How we built it
Through the use Javascript and other helpful tools, we were able to make this idea come to a reality
Challenges we ran into
Developing the collision algorithm: when the cat runs into the edge of a maze, it's supposed to show a collision. However, creating a collision detector with the cat and mouse was difficult. Tracking animation of the banana cat for the maze game, turning the gifs into a higher resolution image.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
An idea that started as having a portfolio inspired by an arcade game come to reality in such a short amount of time is amazing. We ran into multiple difficulties but working alongside positive teammates who are up to the challenge was a key factor in finishing this project better than the idea it started as.
What we learned
Mo: Effective communication is important when working in a team during a hackathon. It ensures that ideas, progress, and challenges are shared transparently for a successful project. Furthermore, reaching out to the lobby for help helped us progress in this project rather than remain stuck. Lastly, this event has helped us connect with many participants as possible. The overall hackathon is very fun to attend!
Beruktawit: Embracing collaboration with new individuals has been an enlightening experience for me during this hackathon. It encouraged me to be transparent about my strengths and weaknesses. This hackathon and my teammate have served as an inspiration, motivating me to continuously seek out new connections and improve my coding skills
What's next for Arcadefolio
The current version of Arcadefolio only presents the portfolio of the team members for this hackathon. In the future, we hope to turn this portfolio into a template website for individuals. As such we hope to add features that will enable them to edit the texts, scale the color of the backgrounds, and fonts to best fit the person's preferences
