Inspiration
We were inspired by the idea of letting people socialize, have fun, and play the sports they want to play. For some of us, it is our first year at UC Irvine, and we found it difficult to talk to new people or have much interaction, especially at very crowded events.
What it does
Users can create an account by logging in and creating a profile with:
- A name and bio
- The sports they like
- Their skill level
- Their playing preferences
- When they are free to play
They can then find potential matches with other users, find similar matches, and message other users to schedule a game or simply talk.
How we built it
- Language: TypeScript
- Database and authentication: Supabase
- Styling: Tailwind CSS
- UI and routing: React
- Frontend build tool: Vite
Challenges we ran into
Throughout the workflow, there were errors to fix. Some prominent challenges we worked through were:
- The login system: Our original idea of logging in with email confirmation had limits because we used Supabase for authentication and for storing login information.
- Supabase issues: We had problems with editing profiles and even creating logins.
- Merge conflicts: Two or more teammates sometimes edited the same lines of a file, and we had to resolve them.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of completing the website and of how closely its design matches what we imagined. It was also the first time most of us had worked with GitHub and a shared repo, so doing something new was satisfying.
What we learned
We learned how to use TypeScript, Supabase, Tailwind CSS, React, and Vite.
What's next for ARC Finder
We plan to add more features, such as group chats and court availability.
