Inspiration

As women in STEM, we have faced harassment in our own classes amongst our peers. We wanted to make a product that helps combat discrimination and empower users to report incidents of harassment.

What it does

Our app allows users to alert, record, or message someone discreetly in case of danger through an app that looks like a game.

How we built it

Using Unity, we built an app in the form of a game that gives has users type in inputs for a forest scene, by typing "tree", "log", or "grass" each with specific functions that can sound an alarm, record someone speaking, or message someone, respectfully.

Challenges we ran into

Our audio recording feature and our messaging feature posed the largest problems as some features changed with certain version differences. Additionally exporting to Xcode proved to be a challenge given the short amount of time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

For one, 2 of us in the group had never made an app, much less on Unity, so it was a huge learning curve. Making an app on a new platform required us to adapt and learn quickly. Being able to actually play the app of an android device was something we were not expecting.

What we learned

We learned quite a bit about the stats behind our app and how to go about interfacing mics and speakers with our buttons and app. Learning Unity was definitely a great challenge.

What's next for Arbori

I think for next steps, we would certainly need to create a more aesthetic interface and make our app more user friendly. Additionally making adjustments to the recording and messaging feature is vital.
