Inspiration

We started by experimenting with Flipper Zeros and Marauder tools, testing various technologies across the city. What began as curiosity quickly turned into concern when we discovered a severe vulnerability—communication marauders can bring down networks, disable security systems, and empower bad actors to execute malicious attacks undetected.

This vulnerability is a critical risk for smart cities, government infrastructure, and military operations. That’s why we built Arachna Networks: a solution to defend against communication marauders and ensure critical systems stay online.

What It Does

Our system secures camera networks by integrating a dynamic interloping mesh framework.

  • Detects attacks in real-time and sends alerts.
  • Automatically switches to alternative communication channels (LoRa )
  • Ensures continuous visual data flow, allowing responders to assess threats and take action.

Even if attackers jam or take down traditional networks, our solution ensures that eyes stay on the target.

How We Built It

Arachna Networks is built on:

  • Open-source Reticulum mesh networking for resilient communication.
  • Python-based framework, with expansion capabilities in C++ and Java for optimized performance.

  • BRISQUE (Blind/Referenceless Image Spatial Quality Evaluator) and OpenCV to dynamically select the best frames to transmit over low-bandwidth networks.

  • Highly available hardware that supports rapid deployment in tactical environments.

Challenges We Ran Into

  • NVIDIA hardware compatibility issues with YOLO object detection.
  • Optimizing Reticulum for real-time visual transmission.
  • Tuning BRISQUE for the most efficient frame selection.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

  • Developing a system that can save lives by maintaining visual intelligence in critical scenarios.
  • Creating a robust defense against communication marauders, closing a major security gap.
  • Successfully integrating multiple communication protocols into a single resilient framework.
  • Collaborating with experts at the Military MetaOps Hackathon to refine our approach.

What We Learned

  • The real-world impact of communication security—mentors and professionals at the Military MetaOps hackathon gave us invaluable insights into the importance of resilient systems.
  • How to optimize AI-driven frame selection using BRISQUE and OpenCV for low-bandwidth transmission.

Also, we learned that we love competing—especially when we win.

What's Next for Arachna Networks

We’re taking Arachna Networks to the next level by:

  • Developing a tactical mesh product line for real-world deployment.
  • Validating our startup with field tests and industry feedback.
  • Expanding the system to support military and emergency response applications.
  • Building partnerships to integrate our solution into smart cities and security infrastructures.

Our mission is simple: create a resilient, secure, and adaptable communication standard for the future.
